SOPHIE PERL, HUMAN RIGHTS CENTER FELLOW
Sophie joins Article One as a 2018 Human Rights Center Fellow from UC Berkeley’s School of Law. As a 3rd year undergraduate student studying political science and human rights, Sophie is fascinated by the field of business and human rights and all of the complexities and opportunities for progress that it holds.
As a summer fellow with Article One, Sophie is supporting the team on a range of projects, including an initiative that focuses on bringing a child rights lens to existing responsible supply chain management programs. Sophie is excited to explore where opportunities for collaboration and mutual benefit lie within the apparel and footwear sector, specifically regarding child rights and the vulnerabilities children and families face working along corporate supply chains today.
Outside of her studies, Sophie serves as the External Vice President of the Anti-Trafficking Coalition at Berkeley, a student organization that works to combat human trafficking through awareness, advocacy, and collaboration within the Bay Area anti-trafficking community and beyond. As an Oakland, California native, Sophie’s interest in human rights was sparked at an early age when she learned of the local human trafficking epidemic, and she hopes to bring her knowledge and experience in the anti-trafficking movement to her work with Article One.
Sophie is currently pursuing a BA in Political Science from UC Berkeley with minors in Global Poverty & Practice and Human Rights. She plans to graduate in the spring of 2020 and begin a career in human rights.
